If you have been searching for pregnancy osteopathy in Narre Warren as your due date draws closer, you are certainly not alone. Pregnancy is one of the biggest physical changes a body can go through, and here in Narre Warren I regularly meet expectant mothers from across the City of Casey who are looking for ways to feel more comfortable and supported in the final weeks before birth.

I'm Andray, an osteopath at Gravity Osteopathy. In this post I want to walk you through how your body may be changing in late pregnancy, what an osteopathic appointment may involve, and some practical steps you may like to consider as you prepare for labour, birth, and the months that follow.

A quick note before we begin: every pregnancy is different. If you have any concerns about pain, bleeding, reduced movements, or anything else that worries you, please speak with your midwife, obstetrician, or GP first. Osteopathy is never a replacement for your pregnancy care team; it sits alongside it.

How Your Body May Be Changing in Late Pregnancy

By the third trimester, your body has already been through months of remarkable adaptation. Hormones such as relaxin soften ligaments around the pelvis, and a growing bump gradually shifts your centre of gravity forward. Many of the women I see in the clinic describe a dull ache in the lower back, a feeling of heaviness through the pelvis, discomfort under the ribs, and shoes that suddenly don't fit the way they used to.

These changes are a normal part of pregnancy, yet they may place new demands on muscles and joints that are working overtime. Add in the spring activities many of us enjoy around Narre Warren and Berwick, such as walks around Casey Fields or weekend markets in Cranbourne, and it is easy to see why some women feel their body is working harder than usual as summer approaches.

Some people find that discomfort builds slowly over weeks; others notice it arrives suddenly after one busy day on their feet. However it shows up for you, changes around the pelvis, lower back, and ribcage are worth paying attention to during pregnancy.

What a Pregnancy Osteopathy Appointment May Involve

When you come in to see me at Gravity Osteopathy in Narre Warren, the first thing we do is talk. I want to understand your pregnancy journey so far, your plans for birth, and what you are feeling day to day. I will also ask about your relevant medical history, and with your consent I am happy to stay in communication with your broader pregnancy care team so everyone is on the same page.

The assessment itself is gentle and adapted to your stage of pregnancy. You will be positioned comfortably, usually with pillows supporting your bump, and techniques are chosen to suit you on the day. For some women that means very gentle work around the pelvis and lower back; for others the focus may be the ribcage, mid-back, or hips. Nothing happens without your okay, and we adjust or stop at any point if something doesn't feel right.

It may help to think of an appointment as a chance to slow down and check in with your body at a time when so much of your attention is directed toward your baby. Some people find it offers a sense of calm and a few useful movement strategies to take home; others simply enjoy an hour where their own needs come first. Both are perfectly good reasons to come in.

Preparing for Labour and Birth

No one can promise how a birth will unfold, and I certainly never will. What I can do is support your body to feel as prepared as possible. In the lead-up to your due date, we may discuss comfortable resting and sleeping positions, gentle movements you can use during labour, breathing rhythms, and ways to keep your hips and pelvis moving well as your baby descends.

If you are planning a vaginal birth, positions such as hands-and-knees, sidelying, and upright leaning are worth practising beforehand so they feel familiar rather than foreign on the day. Many women tell me that simply having a few options ready gives them a greater sense of confidence and calm as labour begins. If a caesarean birth is on the cards, the same ideas around comfort, breathing, and gentle early movement may still be useful for your recovery afterwards.

If your care team has recommended rest or modified activity for any reason, we work within those guidelines. Your osteopathic care should always complement your obstetric or midwifery advice, never override it.

The Fourth Trimester: Support After Your Baby Arrives

Birth, however it unfolds, is a significant physical event, and the months that follow bring their own demands: feeding postures, lifting a baby in and out of a cot, carrying a capsule to the car, and sleep patterns that can leave you feeling quite literally bent out of shape. Many of the mothers I see in Narre Warren, Cranbourne, and Berwick tell me the fourth trimester surprised them more than pregnancy itself.

The postnatal period can be a lovely time for a check-in. We can look at how your pelvis, back, and ribcage are recovering, talk through comfortable feeding and carrying setups at home, and gently map out a return to exercise when and if you feel ready. There is no rush. Your body has done something remarkable, and it deserves patience and care.
